Ron’s “Seeds of Turmoil” Review
I was pleasantly surprised by this masterful work of Bryant Wright. “Seeds of Turmoil” The Biblical Roots of Crisis in the Middle East is a book that fosters understanding in one of the most commonly misinterpreted story behind the constant and continuous unrest in the Middle East. I was amazed to discover the multi generational effects of this never ending conflict that through “Seeds of Turmoil” I was made to understand.
The author clearly and concisely exhibits how thousands of years ago a single decision by the man most often credited to be the father of humanity began a conflict that affects our entire world today. Who has not been affected by the conflict in the Middle East? Everyone in modern day society has contemplated at one time or another, “What is the deal with these people? Why are they so poised to destroy our way of life?” The answer is in the pages of a book that combines academic research with common sense while enabling the reader to understand where the “Seeds of Turmoil” were first planted and why the foul fruit of a decision made thousands of years ago is still leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of those who dwell in this world today.
It is a pleasure to read a book that has the objective of fostering understanding between people of varying beliefs. This book has the potential to reverse the perception and judgments that have existed between the prominent adversaries within the Middle East conflict. It is my sincere hope that this book is read by all who will benefit from an end to this unproductive and daunting conflict.
The author writes for a wide audience and manages to stay neutral throughout the book regardless of his own personal religious beliefs. I found his writing style to be refreshing and enjoyed reading “Seeds of Turmoil; The Biblical Roots of the Inevitable Crisis in the middle East”. This book is an incredibly entertaining and educating read; a rare combination.
Ron’s “Cast of Characters” Review
Max Lucado’s book Cast of Character is an interesting take on many of the most talked about people in the Bible. He puts into his own words the personas of each individual as well as their unique struggles and conquests over life diversities. Through it all God comes through for them and provides in ways that were not always considered. In short, in Faith they were willing to walk through fear and into Promise.
I liked the premise of this book and found it to be somewhat entertaining. As always, Lucado’s unique voice is apparent from chapter to chapter. He enlightens us about the lives and personalities of the disciple’s and apostles as well as a multitude of other players throughout scripture. Max does well to paint the reader a picture of the human side of each and every one of them by portraying them as closely as he could to those of this age.
As far as great reads I would have to say he misses the mark. I found it very difficult to get through the book and found it very easy to put down. There was nothing that grabbed me and caused me to yearn to read more. It was a book that I chose to read between books.
Cast of Characters may be a better book for a biblical novice who is just opening their eyes and hearts. It would be a great tool to help a new reader grasp the implications of modern struggle by exhibiting the similarities and exhibit the realism of them in a light of modern days. Readers will find themselves and those they know in the characters discussed in this book making the biblical stories easier to relate to.
Again, it is not that this is not a good book. It just was not the right book for me.
Ron’s “The Power of Respect” Review
Deborah Norville’s book “The Power of Respect” was written to exhibit the value of respect in today’s word. It is collection of stories in which respect played a major role in creating positive situations in relationships of all kinds. She claims that respect is the most forgotten element of success in living, playing and working with others.
I especially liked her thoughts on the power of respect at home. She states and backs up with real world examples of how children learn from what their parents do. How they will deal with others will largely depend upon how they see their parents act and react with others. She instructs parents to “model for your children the behavior you want for them.”
Although there were several interesting snippets throughout this book this reader did not feel it to be one of the better books on respect. I would have liked to see more of Deborah’s personality, personal experiences and heart rather than a seemingly endless flow of so called professionals on this topic. To me it seemed like a lot of speculation masquerading as scientific fact. I would much rather hear pure heartfelt real life situations and circumstances in which the power of respect was exhibited in the author’s life.
The book is a worthwhile read, but as far as books on respect go I would encourage readers to pick up a copy of “Love and Respect”. Love is admiration and respect is consideration. Love and respect really go hand and hand. In regards to “The Power of Respect” I would have to say, “Great attempt, but something is missing.”
Much of the advice in this book is common sense. The author speaks of “The most forgotten element of success” without properly stating what it is to be successful. The word in itself is void of value. After all, my Beagle is very successful at being a dog. What is success to one is rarely success to another.
Ron’s “Will the World End in 2012?” Review

Will the world end in 2012? There are many theories as to what exactly will end. Over the centuries there have been many times of transition; entire civilizations have gone extinct. The way of life for millions of people has changed time and again. In the United States alone; being one of the youngest countries in the world, we have experienced major shifts in the way we earn our living, raise our children and even worship our God.
So with all this in mind we must look at what will be the next transition in our infinite ascension through a looking glass full of many possibilities. Raymond C. Hundley closely examines many of the possible scenarios claimed by various experts in a vast array of fields. His book Will the World End In 2012 takes us on an intriguing journey through the many theories revolving around this critical question. Although it is billed as a Christian guide to the questions everyone’s asking Hundley remains neutral through the majority of the book and lets his research pretty much speak for itself.
He starts out with an overview of the Mayan’s and the fact that their calendar ends in 2012; one of the most well know initiates of the end of times controversy. The author further examines the possible effects of solar storms on the planet and how they could cause multiple catastrophes throughout the earth. Everything including possible scientific blunders; philosophical predictions; the reversal of magnetic poles; a collision with an unknown planet; eruption of a super volcano; galactic alignment and religious theories are expounded upon.
I found this book to be educational and somewhat interesting, but I also found it to be very easy to put down. It seemed as if the publisher could have done more to push the entertainment envelope. Will the World End in 2012 is a book that begs to be elaborated upon. However, I would recommend it as a book to read in between the must reads. It is a tasty treat that is more palatable when served a bite at a time.
Ron’s “Winston Churchill” Review
I found the Christian Encounters book on Winston Churchill to be very interesting and entertaining. The author made me feel as if I were getting detailed eye witness accounts to many of the situations and circumstances that led to the development of the character which was Winston Churchill. John Perry did an excellent job of portraying one of the most influential political leaders of world history in a way that gives the reader an acute and accurate understanding of how the people close to Churchill were able to affect his life through their spiritual, political and secular beliefs.
The life of Winston Churchill unfolds through the pages of this informative and well written book. From his earliest childhood episodes all the way through his final days the reader is led to understand the making of one of this world’s greatest leaders. John Perry was able to take a great hero of the cause, bring him down to earth and make him more human through every emotionally charged chapter in this book. The reader will identify with the humanness of Churchill and gain great understanding in how the words that we speak and actions we take can have such a huge influence on those around us. In this we must understand how powerful and capable we are in our influence and how far reaching the affects of the knowledge we share in regards to our religion and beliefs can potentially be. In the case of Elizabeth Everest’s who gave generous doses of her own religious viewpoint to Winston Churchill she was able to give him the strong foundation which he would build his lifetime upon.
I highly recommend this book. It is a value to all reader’s young and old as well as a great addition to any book collection. Whether the reader is a Christian enthusiast, history buff of just loves a great story they will not be disappointed with this enchanting look at this man of “Liberty”.
Ron’s “How to Reach Your Full Potential for God” Review
Charles F. Stanley’s newest book “How to Reach Your Full Potential for God” is an incredible work which sets a strong foundation in Biblical principles for achieving our ultimate Being. I love this work and found it to be entertaining and educational. The stories included at the end of each chapter give practical relevance to the many ways we can pursue our God-given potential.
I often listen to sermons delivered by this author and have always walked away enlightened and satisfied by his honesty and sincerity in delivering a message he cares whole heartedly that the listener understands and is able to apply in their daily walk. Dr. Stanley has the Truth sown in his heart and never walks around it. He is adamant about his beliefs and has the years of practical Bible knowledge and real world experience to back up every word of it. “Listen.” He is going to place you on the path and set God’s travel plan in motion. Our only requirement is to choose God’s way.
This book showed me another side of Charles that I was unfamiliar with. I was pleased to find a man whose open mindedness had allowed him to accept self help books as a viable source of information as long as the information within did line up with the Word. The fact that he was able to use the book “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill to gain spiritual fruit rather than material wishes particularly impressed me.
These chapters are loaded with valuable information that will appeal to both the avid reader of Christian based books as well as the novice student of the Word. His views of relationships and risk taking especially spoke to me. Clearing our minds and hearts while using our God given gifts will enable us to reach our greatest potential. After reading this wonderful work the readers will “Never Settle for Less than His Best” because of the lessons given through the inspiring words and chapters that comprise this must have book for anyone’s personal library. I would advise anyone who wishes to have a happy and healthy family life to set up a reading schedule to actively share this book with your children and spouse. This is a very important and powerful work!
Ron’s “The Evolution of God” Review
The Evolution of God by Paul Seydel explores the ever changing concepts of God. The author examines various religious groups and cults. This book seems to be largely opinionated, but Seydel does make some interesting points. He takes a refreshingly brave stand in his quest to uncover the many faces of God in today’s religions. At the very least the reader will get an education in doctrine through the authors simple yet intelligent descriptions and contrasts exhibited throughout the pages of this book. A timeline runs from chapter to chapter which makes the evolutionary aspects of God concepts quiet intriguing. He takes the reader from Natural Selection and Religious Origins through Pagan Gods, The God of Patriarchs and Prophets, The Father God, Allah, The Mormon God. The Healing God and finally to The Universal God which is gaining a huge following today.
I found Paul Seydel’s insights into the validity of the Koran a bit biased but very interesting. I think he has a valid point and I found the information to be extremely valuable. His views of Christian Science being highly metaphysical in nature were dead on. Although his deistic beliefs are highly apparent in his writing, I did find his style to be original and his premise to be well-founded in most instances.
His information and references back up much of his ideas and truly give insight into the being of God. The cultural exploration into the sociology of world religions should be a value to any reader who wishes to get a better grasp on what our brothers and sisters who share this world with us believe. Their perceptions have created their reality of the God they worship. The Evolution of God is a book that gives the reader just enough knowledge of world religion to help them to empathize with those who strictly follow the other religions of the world.
This book is not for everyone. Many readers will find it difficult to move through. The physical quality of the book is very poor too. Good information in a poor package.
Ron’s “And Then There was Heaven” Review
Spirit is living in these pages. I was reading it this morning when suddenly my lamp dimmed and I felt a presence. I asked, “Who is here?” As I closed my eyes the face of my mother’s mother appeared. I felt the vibration of her love engulf my entire being. As her spirit slowly left me the lamp regained its brightness. I looked up at the page number and to my surprise this wonderful experience happened while I was on page 111. Thank you for facilitating this connection.
I read this book in two sittings. It was one of the most difficult books for me to put down. At one point I became so engrossed in this work that I considered the idea of a “Hands Free Reader.” I read it throughout the first two days I had it wherever I could read it. It was a friend while waiting in my car for my son to get out of CCD classes, in the stands at basketball practice and pretty much anywhere else they had the elements present which would allow me to read.
Thanks again for a wonderful experience that filled my heart and soul with love and light. God bless!
Ron’s “Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World” Review
Many Christians get so caught up with what it means to be Christian that they become the opposite of a Christian. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ”. Dr. David Jeremiah has truly defined what it means to be a good Christian and in doing so has blown Gandhi’s statement right out of the water. “Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World” clearly defines what I have always known a Christian should be.
It is about being, living and thinking as Christ. To achieve an absolute Christ Consciousness through the totality of our Being is the ultimate goal of the Heaven bound student of Jesus. We are to be true disciples! In so being it is our duty to evaluate all our actions and recognize why or why not they are matching up to those of our savior. At this point we must be prepared, through the knowledge of Scripture, to choose to be righteous.
Dr. Jeremiah illustrates how we should stay calm, compassionate, connected, confident and consistent in our journey to be like Christ. In doing so, we will achieve incredible things in our journey with Spirit. Our Gifts must be used for His purpose; to help others to reconnect with what is all good and righteous.
“Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World” does a wonderful job of using real life experiences and heartfelt stories to truly exemplify what the author wishes to project onto the souls of his readers. There are many wonderful antic dotes which through the use of humor clearly get his point across to the reader.
Personally, this book came into my life just at the right time. It answered many of the nagging questions that have lingered in my mind over the last few weeks and has brought me totally back “online” with Christ. Stay the course, stay committed and be convinced that all things are in His hands.
I would like to thank Dr. Jeremiah for sharing his knowledge, wisdom and open mindedness with his readers. He is truly well ahead of his time and I would truly recommend this book to Christians of all denominations and all those who find themselves searching for something more.
Ron’s “Love & Respect” Review
This is a wonderful book that takes the complexities of achieving marital bliss and whittles them down to two needs. Dr. Eggeriches tells couples that they can avoid the “Cycle” by considering the emotional requirements of their spouse. His conclusions are based on several fabulous yet common examples taken directly from his experiences as well as those of whom he has counseled. To put it simply, a women needs love and a man requires respect in order to avoid the pitfalls of a “Cycle” of destruction.
Love & Respect is a must for all traditional marriages. Whether our relationships are six months old or sixty years young this book will without a doubt help make sense out of most every relationship issue. Eggeriche’s book should be required reading by married couples as well as those who counsel them.
Dr. Eggeriche’s book covers so many areas of spousal importance that it is almost “A Marriage Manual for Life.” Love and Respect is a comprehensive compilation for creating an enduring relationship. Rarely does a book personally inspire me as this did. Please know that I would consider it an honor to work with Dr. Eggeriche on any of his future works. Well done!
Ron’s “Fearless” Review
Max Lucado’s newest well-timed release “Fearless” is a relevant work intended to help readers navigate the sometimes stormy waters of this earthly realm of existence. Through various scripture and true life experiences Max paints a picture of a world where we decide! Do we want to concentrate on the troublesome seas and tumbling horizons or will we choose the calm over the storm? How we answer this question will decide our fate and lay the groundwork for our experiences to come.
During the first few chapters I came to ask myself, “Where is Max?” You see, his voice in these chapters seemed to be trying to find or reinvent itself. Thankfully, as I entered into chapter five the trying to hard Max was exchanged for the Max Lucado I have come to know and love. Soon I would be back with an old friend chatting in his living room sharing warm funny and heartfelt testimony of how fear was replaced by hope, faith and love to find peace in a complex world.
“Fearless” is a must have book designed to assist Christians of all denominations in their quest to become all that they are created to be. The author lays out simple yet profound advice for living a happy life “NOW’ by choosing to trust God and the plan He has for us while releasing ourselves from the illusions of the material world. Bravo Max on a job well done.
Ron’s “Everyday Greatness” Review
Stephen R. Covey’s “Everyday Greatness” is a fantastic collection of wonderful stories with pertinent commentary. This is truly an inspirational work. David Hatch has really compiled some emotion provoking stories of people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. This book really puts what it truly means to do good deeds into perspective.
Covey presents simple, yet philosophical, examples for achieving greatness in our daily lives. The stories encourage one to be caring, loving, selfless, and to take action by putting the needs of many above those of one. His commentary affirms the notion that one person can make a huge difference in the lives of the recipients of their incredible gifts.
It is not often that emotions are sent on such an extraordinary ride. The stories in this book are guaranteed to deliver laughter, tears, joy and sorrow to the reader while pushing the envelope of what it means to give of one’s self without reservation. It is liken to a ride on an emotional rollercoaster. This is a work that should be cherished by the reader and passed on from generation to generation. “Everyday Greatness” exemplifies what it truly means to be a hero!
This is an inspiring work, and Stephen Covey uses straightforward language that makes his hypothesis amicable, even presenting quotes from many gifted speakers, artists and writers from all times. “Everyday Greatness” uses many examples taken from lives of the everyday hero that give authority to the author’s insights. This work’s spirited style and earnest intent should absorb the reader in a refreshing look at life’s infinite possibilities for being all that we are created to be.
Ron’s “The Narrow Gate” Review
The Narrow Gate A Journey Through Identity, Belief and Perception is a wonderful captivating story that draws the reader into the mind of its main character through a detailed account of the events which brought Salvatore DeSanti through an intriguing transformation. This is a truly compelling tale of a young man who experiences life in the physical realm while being led towards the development of his spiritual senses. The story of his visit from the spirit of an ascended friend who he did not yet know had completed his walk on this physical plane echoed an experience I once had and in doing so brought me to a place of shared consciousness with Salvatore.
The author paints a vivid picture of the small New England town in which Salvatore expanded his consciousness. I felt at home in every paragraph and found myself reminiscing of times past through the photos in my mind and the new images created there by JP Danna.
This book is one that everyone should read whom is in a place of uncertainty about their present beliefs. One who is yearning to move forward and expand their faith and consciousness while journeying along their path of infinite ascension will gain much understanding through the experiences of Salvatore DeSanti. The shared circumstances and situations throughout this book not only exhibit a common thread between reader and writer, but also bring enlightenment and solace through the use of effective analogy and vivid expressiveness.
I highly recommend this book. The most frustrating thing about reading The Narrow Gate A Journey Through Identity, Belief and Perception was to force myself to put it down.
